Alcohol Free Zone Project Know is a statewide initiative that addresses the subject of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. Project Know is working towards informing and educating the community on the public health issues that arise from the use and abuse of these products.

The Zone is an area located along the main Mardi Gras parade route in Lake Charles that is completely alcohol and tobacco free. The event is kid friendly and is filled with free fun activities, entertainment and food. The Zone began four years ago as a program of Project KNOW and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, and was designed to offer a safe, yet fun environment for the community's youth to enjoy the Mardi Gras holiday. Since the first year the event has continued to grow, not only in attendance, but also with community support. In 2010, the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living joined forces with Project KNOW as an event partner.
