The SEED Center project is designed to nurture entrepreneurship and further diversify the economic base of SWLA and is a part of the Parish's Long-Term Community Recovery Program.
The Center will be located across from McNeese on almost 8 acres of undeveloped MSU property. The building designed by Champeaux, Evans & Hotard will be approximately 50,000 sq. ft. and be comprised of:
- Facilities for developing businesses (incubator offices, labs and workshops)
- Offices for the McNeese State University Small Business Development Center
- Conference training rooms
- Faculty offices for McNeese State University College of Business
The SEED Center will make up a one-stop economic development center housing the offices for regional organizations such as the SWLA Economic Development Alliance which is comprised of the Chamber SWLA, the SWLA Alliance Foundation, and the public SWLA Partnership for Economic Development as well as the IMCAL Regional Planning Commission and others.
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, the City of Lake Charles, McNeese State University and the SWLA Economic Development Alliance have been working on this project since 2005. The SEED Center is slated to break ground before the end of 2010.
