OHSEP, Parish Team to Begin Flooding Damage Assessments

Residents encouraged to report damages online

Post Date:07/16/2019

In the wake of the flooding caused by Hurricane Barry, the Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Parish Damage Assessment Team will begin doing visual, drive-by inspections of impacted areas in Calcasieu Parish.

Inspections will begin Wednesday, July 17, and last approximately two weeks.

They will be looking for flooding and water damage, specifically to exterior walls and roofs, as well as other issues caused by floodwaters.

“The information collected will be utilized for the parish’s preliminary damage assessment to determine eligibility for federal assistance through FEMA,” said Dick Gremillion, Director of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. “It is a necessary step to begin the recovery process.”

Residents are also encouraged to report any damages to their homes and businesses online at http://report-la-calcasieu.orioncentral.com/

Southwest Louisiana residents in need of immediate relief assistance may call 211 or text 898-211 for up-to-date connections to local resources.
