Calcasieu River, English Bayou Now Open
Residents urged to use caution because water levels are still high
The Calcasieu River and English Bayou are now open to recreational boat traffic.
Dick Gremillion, Director of the Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said the river’s level has receded and all restrictions have been lifted.
OHSEP issued an Emergency Declaration on May 13 to close the Calcasieu River, English Bayou and all areas north of the Saltwater Barrier to the parish line, including the West Fork of the Calcasieu River, because of flooding.
Additionally, all parish boat launches have been reopened, but parish officials urge residents to use caution because the water is still high and currents are strong.
