Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Honored with Tourism Award
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury received the "Organization of the Year" Award at the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau's annual Partners in Tourism ceremony.
According to the CVB, the Police Jury was honored because of its work with the City of Lake Charles and Ward 3 to add nine more turf fields to the sports infrastructure in Southwest Louisiana. The fields at Power Centre have been completed and are in use and the fields at OD Johnson Recreational Facility are expected to be completed within the next month.
Also, the CVB and the Police Jury partnered on an incentive program to encourage the I-210 overlay project to move along more quickly to help minimize the traffic challenges facing the parish. In addition, the Police Jury and the CVB just worked together to submit a bid to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association to host the boys and girls state basketball championships in 2020 at the Burton Complex.
Police jurors and tourism liaisons Hal McMillin and Sandy Treme, along with Police Jury President Kevin White, accepted the award. Also representing the Police Jury at the ceremony were Alberto Galan, Assistant to the Administrator; Bryan Beam, Parish Administrator and Brian Abshire, District 5 Police Juror.
