Demolition of Old DA's Office Set to Begin on March 11
Visitors are asked to park at Civic Center or use lots at the northwest and southwest corner of Gill and Pithon streets
The demolition of 1020 Ryan Street, the former site of the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, will begin Monday, March 11.
The building, built in 1981, is being demolished because of problems with water leakage into its stucco exterior. Renovation would prove too costly, said Dean Kelly, Director of Facility Management.
The DA's office moved out of the building in 2011 and now occupies four floors of the building at 901 Lakeshore Drive.
This demolition project is estimated to last 120 days. Afterwards, crews will beautify the area, incorporating Ryan Street's existing design work.
Beginning March 11, the demolition area will be fenced off and no parking will be available. Parking lots at the northwest and southwest corner of Gill and Pithon Streets are available, as well as the Lake Charles Civic Center.
