Calcasieu River Closing to Recreational Boat Traffic Due to Flooding

Post Date:01/04/2019

The Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, in consultation with Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso, has issued an emergency declaration to close the Calcasieu River to all recreational boat traffic beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4.

An emergency declaration means emergency plans have been activated.

The declaration prohibits all recreational boat traffic along the Calcasieu River, English Bayou and areas north of Interstate 10 to the Calcasieu Parish line. The West Fork of the Calcasieu River is not included.

Commercial and law enforcement vessels/boats are exempt from the declaration.

The order will remain in place until river levels return to normal.

Residents who need emergency help should call 911.
