Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Budget Committee Hears 2019 Budget Presentation
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Budget Committee heard a presentation of the 2019 proposed annual budget at its Thursday, Nov. 15 meeting.
The proposed 2019 budget is $244 million, which is a 4.5 percent increase from 2018’s budget of $233.5 million. Sixty-three percent of this increase is related to capital improvements, such as bridge and road improvements, construction of new facilities and other related investments.
“The largest portion of the 4.5 percent increase in the proposed 2019 budget is for capital projects. These include drainage projects, road and bridge improvement and many others. The budget as proposed aligns with priorities identified by the Police Jury during the strategic planning process conducted this year,” said Parish Administrator Bryan C. Beam.
The operating portion of the budget is a 3.6 percent increase over from 2018, which is considered modest – especially in a growth environment, Beam said.
Property tax revenues are projected to increase by 4.6 percent in 2019 and sales tax revenues are anticipated to increase by 10.3 percent. The staff anticipates that gaming revenue levels may decrease by 1.4 percent in 2019.
