Housing and Homeless Crisis Forum to be Held on Nov. 13
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Human Services Department will host a Housing and Homeless Crisis Forum from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Business and Career Solutions Center, 2424 Third St., in Lake Charles.
City and parish officials, non-profit service providers and residents will be on hand for a public conversation about homelessness. What is being done about it? What solutions work?
Guest speakers at the event will include Gordon Levine, Continuum of Care manager with the Louisiana Balance of State Continuum of Care, Louisiana Housing Corporation; Kelli Tidwell Stawecki, homeless advocate with Water’s Edge Ministry; Tarek Polite, director of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Human Services Department and Kevin Guidry, Calcasieu Parish District 9 Police Juror.
“The forum on the 13th will provide an excellent opportunity for key stakeholders to listen, discuss, and share with each other the difficulty of serving some of the vulnerable individuals in our community,” said Tarek Polite. “While we may not agree on statistical data, approaches, methods, governmental regulations, or even how pervasive the homeless problem may be in our region, we all can agree that one individual being homeless is one too many and if we are going to effectively address homelessness in our region, we all have to work together and understand what each group brings to the table.”
