Calcasieu River, English Bayou to Close on Friday Due to Flooding
Due to recent heavy rains north of Calcasieu Parish, the Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has issued an Emergency Declaration to close the Calcasieu River, effective at noon on Friday.
The closure order is for the Calcasieu River - north from the Saltwater Barrier to the Allen Parish line - and English Bayou, but it excludes the West Fork.
The emergency declaration prohibits all recreational boat traffic on the Calcasieu River and on English Bayou. The Calcasieu River should reach 7 feet by early Friday afternoon.
The emergency declaration order was signed by Calcasieu Parish Police Jury President Judd Bares.
Extra Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division patrols will be utilized to enforce the ban.
The order will remain in place until river levels return to normal.
