Post Date:01/09/2017 8:39 AM

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Human Services Department Advisory Board has a vacancy and is seeking one individual who resides in Calcasieu Parish to represent the interests, concerns, and needs of the private sector. Any civic organization or representative of the private sector can submit for representation on this board.

The Advisory Board meets on a quarterly basis. Its primary function is to assist the Human Services Department in the design and development of local strategies, projects, and activities aimed at increasing the Parish’s responsiveness to the needs and interests of citizens with low incomes. It also evaluates all program services administered by the department.

The qualifying period will begin on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 and end on Friday, February 17, 2017.

Each candidate petitioning for membership to the board must submit a letter of interest to the Advisory Board’s secretary at P.O. Box 3171, Lake Charles, LA 70602-3171. The letter should specify at a minimum why you feel you or your organization should have a seat on the board, what you hope to accomplish by serving in this capacity, and how you will get information to and from the members of the community. Please also include why the mission of the Human Services Department is important to you and describe the unique perspective you offer as a representative of your organization/the private sector, including the skills, resources, and expertise you are willing and able to utilize on behalf of the department.

All interested parties will have an opportunity to participate in one of two informational meetings. In these meetings, we will give more detailed information including the responsibilities and time commitments involved with board membership. This is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have prior to submitting your letter of intent. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2017 and Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Both sessions will be held at 5:30 PM at the Allen P. August Multi-Purpose Annex located at 2000 Moeling Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601. Attendance for interested parties is not mandatory but strongly encouraged.

If you have questions or would like to inform Human Services staff of your intent to attend one of these meetings contact Michelle Guidry at or 337-721-4030, extension 5043.
