A unique movie experience!

If you've ever wanted to see a movie in a unique setting, look no further than Movies Under the Stars!

Each spring, summer and fall, the Police Jury shows all styles of movies under a star-filled Friday or Saturday evening at sundown in Prien Lake Park. The best thing about these events is that it's totally free to watch the event. Guests are encouraged to bring their blankets or chairs out early (around 7 p.m) to claim a good spot in the park to watch some of the silver screen's finest films - from recent blockbusters to timeless classic pictures.

Fall 2017:

Get ready to enjoy four fascinating movies on Fridays this month during “Movies Under the Stars.”

The movies, which feature a LEGO superhero, a champion racehorse, pampered pets, and troublesome witches, will kick off Friday, Oct. 6, at Mallard Junction Park, 599 August St., in Lake Charles. The other three movies will be shown at Prien Lake Park, 3700 West Prien Lake Road.

Movies, dates and locations:

  • Oct. 6 - Mallard Junction Park: “The LEGO Batman Movie.” LEGO Batman, starring in his very own big-screen adventure, has to save Gotham from The Joker's hostile takeover. But, he can’t do it alone – he has to learn to lighten up and learn how to work with others (Rated PG).

  • Oct. 13 – Prien Lake Park: “Secratariat.” Based on the novel by William Nack, the movie is about the journey of the 1973 Triple Crown winner, who made it to the top against all odds. Housewife Penny Chenery (Diane Lane) takes over Meadow Stables for her ailing father - despite her lack of horse-racing knowledge. With the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), Chenery manages to nab the first Triple Crown in 25 years (Rated PG).

  • Oct. 20 – Prien Lake Park: “The Secret Life of Pets.” If you ever wondered what your pets do all day when you’re at work or school, then this animated comedy is for you. See what happens when Max's life as a pampered pooch is turned upside down when his owner brings home a stray named Duke (Rated PG).

  • Oct. 27 – Prien Lake Park: “Hocus Pocus.” In this Halloween classic, three witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy), who were executed in Salem 300 years ago, vow to reappear on a future Halloween to wreak havoc on the town - and do whatever is necessary to gain immortality (Rated PG).

At the Oct. 20 movie, the Calcasieu Parish Animal Services and Adoption Center will have adoptable pets on hand for residents to meet and greet.

Movies start at sundown - close to 8 p.m. - but get there early to get a good seat. Residents are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. You can also bring your own food, but there will be food available on-site for purchase.

Movies will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
