All service requests received in our office will be physically inspected normally within 24 hours of receipt. This is required before spraying to assure that the proper steps are being taken to assist in solving the problem. Many times complaints about biting mosquitoes are the result of localized production. By assessing the situation with an inspector trained in mosquito biology and identification the root of the problem can often times be found and eliminated.
Inspectors document their findings and, if necessary what they may have done to resolve the problem, on the service request report form. The information from this inspection is used along with all the other inspection data of that day to schedule treatments for that evening. Data from these inspections is also kept in a database for future reference should it be determined that a larger ongoing problem (breeding area) needs to be regularly addressed.
Often times we have citizens call that do not want us to check their residence but just want us to spray. They will not give us their identity or exact address, just a general area. These calls usually result in no action unless we have other surveillance data from that area indicating a treatment of that area is necessary. Spraying an entire area based on an anonymous caller, who may have a localized problem as a result of mosquito production around his/her premise, is irresponsible. That is why it is important that we check every service request to assure the best service and most cost-efficient program for area citizens.
