Welcome to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury application process!

The following is a list of the most commonly asked questions about the online application process. If you have additional questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact our Human Resources Department at 337-721-3520.

GENERAL

Do I need to complete an application to check job openings?

No. You may view current job openings by visiting Job Opportunities. However, you must complete an application in order to apply for the job.

Do I need to complete an application to be notified of future job openings?

No. You may visit Job Interest Card, and then select the categories for which you would like to be notified. You will, however, need an email address in order to receive the notifications directly to your email.

I see the word NEOGOV on your website. What is NEOGOV?

NEOGOV is the market and technology leader in on-demand human resources designed for the public sector that makes recruiting and hiring easy. 

Where can I find information about the qualifications for a job?

When you have selected Job Opportunities and a Job Posting of interest, a description of the position will be displayed.  Job specific qualifications will include essential job duties; education and licensing requirements; knowledge, skills and abilities; work environment; and physical requirements.

INTERNET AND E-MAIL ACCESS

What if I do not have a computer or access to the internet?

There are several options available if you do not have access to a computer:

  • Visit the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Human Resources Department at 1015 Pithon Street in Lake Charles, LA. Lobby kiosks with computers are available Monday through Friday from8am until 5pm.

  • Contact local agencies that provide computer access to the public. For example: The Calcasieu Parish Public Library. 

  • Call family and friends for assistance.

What if I forget my password or other login information?

If you forget your Username or Password, click on the Forgot Username or Reset Password link and enter the requested information. If you have forgotten the email address used to apply, you may contact the NEOGOV Toll-Free Applicant Support Line at 1-855-524-5627 between 8am – 8pm CST Monday – Friday for assistance.

If I do not have an e-mail address, how can I get one?

In order to apply online, an e-mail address is necessary. A number of internet providers offer free email profiles. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury cannot endorse any particular provider, but examples of free email providers include: Google, and Yahoo.

I received an error stating that my e-mail address is already in use.  What does this mean?

You will receive such a message if you have applied for a job with a government agency or school using the NEOGOV system. If you have set up an account already, you may use the same USERNAME and PASSWORD to access our job site and apply for our listings. If you cannot remember your username or password, select the appropriate link Forgot Username or Reset Password and the information will be emailed to you.

Can more than one person use the same e-mail?

No.  The e-mail is unique to each person and should not be shared.

INTEREST CARD

If I have an interest in a position not currently open for applications, how can I be notified when it opens?

Yes. Select Job Interest Card. You can choose to receive notifications for any position by job category.

APPLYING FOR A JOB

What information is needed to apply for current job postings?

When creating your application, you will be asked to complete information about your education and work experience (i.e. employers, dates, addresses, etc.). A recommendation is to STOP and gather information before you begin. When applying for a job, collect any relevant documents, such as your college transcripts, driver's license, and other certifications. Remember to periodically SAVE your “Work Experience” entries to avoid loss of information.

When does the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury post job openings?

We post jobs as soon as a position becomes open and available.  We update job statuses on a weekly basis, or as needed. 

What is a closing date?

A closing date is the date by which your online employment application must be received in order to be considered for evaluation and possible employment.  You may submit your application up to the closing date and time indicated in the posting. Applications for “continuous” job postings may be submitted up until the posting announcement changes to a specified date and time.

How long will it take to apply for a job?

For first-time users, you should be able to complete your employment application within 30 minutes. For individuals who have applied through NEOGOV in the past, the process should be much quicker. STOP and gather relevant information before you begin. Remember to periodically SAVE your “Work Experience” entries to avoid loss of information.

If I do not have the time to complete my application, may I save it and return later?

The system saves information approximately every 30 seconds. It also saves when you advance to the “next” page. If you are entering “Work Experience” information, you should select “Save” at the bottom of the screen. After logging in to your account, you may return to your application in process by selecting your name in the upper right corner, then selecting “Applications & Status.” You may then choose between applications “Submitted” or “Incomplete.” Remember, however, a complete application must be submitted prior to the closing date and time for a specific job in order to be eligible for consideration.  Your application is not submitted until you click the Accept & Submit button!

Why did the system log me out?

If you idle on a web page for an extended period of time, the system may automatically log you out as a precautionary measure to protect your identity and personal information. Again, the system saves information often but you should remember to periodically save your “Work Experience” entries to avoid losing your information.

Once I submit an application, will I automatically be considered for open positions?

You will only be considered for positions for which you have submitted an application. You may submit an application for any active job posting any time after you have initially applied for a job. If you are interested in a position not currently open for application, consider submitting a Job Interest Card. Select the job category of interest; submit the appropriate information, and you will be notified when a job posting appears.

Is it possible to submit more than one application for the same job posting?

No. You can only submit one employment application per job posting. No changes or additional information will be accepted once your employment application has been submitted. Please be careful to collect all relevant employment data prior to beginning the application process. Remember to review all data prior to saving your application and submitting it.

Can I add and/or make changes to my application at any time?

Changes to your application can be made at any time. However, your application should be final at the time of submission.  Only one application is accepted for each opening.  Updating your account will not impact, modify, or change any previously submitted applications. 

Are online employment applications completed through NEOGOV the only way to apply for job openings? 

Yes. Paper employment applications and resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the online employment application to apply for job openings. 

Can I attach my resume along with my online application?

A resume will not be accepted in lieu of a completed online application and it will not be utilized in the scoring and evaluation of your application. However, you may attach your current resume after completing the online application and supplemental questions. Be sure to fully complete all sections for each job. Resumes will be viewable by the employing department(s) and will only be accepted in the following file type extensions:  bmp, gif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, pdf, png, tif, and tiff.

After I submit my application, what happens next?

Your application will be reviewed by the human resources representative to see if your qualifications meet those posted for that position.  If you meet the minimum qualifications, your information will be forwarded to the appropriate hiring authority/department. 

How will I be notified of my application status?

You will be notified by an email sent to the email address provided on your job applications.

How long is my application active?

Applications that you have saved in your account do not expire.  You may use the same application to apply for several positions.  Once you qualify for a position, your name will remain on a referral list for six months.  Once your eligibility has expired, you will need to reapply for the position once it is reposted on the website. 

Will I be asked to submit my social security number when applying for a job?

A social security number will not be requested when submitting an employment application.

The position I am interested in is listed multiple times on the website.  Do I have to apply for each job opening? 

Each job opening is an individual position within the organization.  You must apply separately for each job opening you want to be considered for. 

Can I apply for more than one job posting at a time?

Yes. You may apply for as many postings of interest that meet your qualifications. Simply go to Job Opportunities, click the "Apply" button shown on the job posting and log in with your USERNAME and PASSWORD to begin the application process.

How many “Work Experience” entries may I include in my application?

There is no limit to the number of “Work Experience” entries you can make.

What are supplemental questions and must I submit answers to these questions?

Supplemental questions are used to determine the extent to which you meet job qualifications.  It is important to provide complete and thorough answers to all questions.  Incomplete or unclear answers may result in disqualification.

Is it possible to print my completed online application?

Yes. Upon confirmation of your application for a job opening, you will have the option to print your completed application. You may also print any of your submitted applications by viewing your Application Status after you have logged in to your account.

Is it possible to check the status of my application once submitted?

Yes. You can verify your application has been received in two ways. First, you should receive an e-mail confirmation once your application is submitted. Second, to check the status of your application, visit the link Application Status (DO NOT use this link to apply for a job.)

Can I modify my employment application for a specific job posting at any time prior to the closing date?

No. After you confirm and submit your application, you cannot make changes. Changes should be made prior to submitting your application.

Can I remove my online employment application from consideration for a job posting once submitted?

Yes. To withdraw from consideration, contact Human Resources.

How will I know if I am selected for an interview?

We will email you a notification at every step of the recruitment process.  If we select you for an interview, you will either get an email or phone call notifying you of your interview appointment. 

I’m a current employee. Do I have to submit an application for an open job?

Yes. To be considered for an open job, all active Parish employees must submit an online employment application. 

BENEFITS

Does the job I applied for have benefits?

It may or may not.  Check the specific job openings for benefit details. 

What benefits are available to Calcasieu Parish Police Jury employees?

ACCESS/SECURITY

Who will be able to view and have access to my online application?

Information that you submit through NEOGOV is stored on a secure server and access is restricted. Only authorized personnel of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Human Resources Department and designated staff within the hiring department are granted access to the information that you submit.
