Maintenance work on the I-10 Bridge will begin on March 3, according to this week's Traffic Report from the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
At its Feb. 20 meeting, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Parishwide Drainage Liaison Committee approved a proposed phase of study for drainage maintenance. The recommendation goes to the full Police Jury at an upcoming meeting.

Calcasieu Parish's Coastal Master Plan, which was approved by the Police Jury at its Feb. 15 meeting, features more than a dozen projects to help protect the coastline from flooding and erosion.

Calcasieu Parish residents can make an appointment to apply for financial assistance for their electricity and gas utility expenses starting Monday, Feb. 5. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP) benefited nearly 8,200 people in 2016 – 2017.
The Food for Seniors Program’s food box distribution has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31, at all sites.
The Food for Seniors Program will not distribute senior food boxes at any of its distribution sites this week.
The East Calcasieu Solid Waste Center, located at 5500 B Swift Plant Road in Lake Charles, will reopen Thursday, Jan. 18, after being closed for two months for construction.
