Elizabeth Conway Griffin - District 3

Elizabeth Griffin was elected in
1995 as the First African American Woman to serve on the Calcasieu Parish
Police Jury. In 2001, she became the first African American Woman to
serve as President of the Jury and of the Louisiana Black Caucus Police Jury,
and to serve as Chair of the Imperial Calcasieu Regional Planning and
Development.
Ms. Griffin is presently
serving her third term as a member of the Police Jury. A former Special
Education Teacher, Ms. Griffin is now a Case Manager and a Licensed Qualified Mental Retardation Professional (OMRP).
She is a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, Beta Kappa Zeta, Zeta Phi
Beta Sorority, NAACP, Louisiana Police Jury Association, and the National Association of Counties (NACo). She also serves on NACo's Community and Economic Development Steering Committee and is a member of the National Association of Black County Officials.
In her spare time, she enjoys
biblical research, sewing, and reading. She is married to "Coach" Henry
Griffin.
Committees: Public Works, Ways and Means, Agenda, Budget (Chair),
General Insurance, Communications and Emergency Response, Litter Abatement and Solid Waste,
Ambulance Regulatory, and Wastewater Study. She also
serves on the following boards: Office of Community Services Board of
Directors, Port of Lake Charles, Workforce Investment Board (WIB), Gaming
Issues Group (Chair), Administration Liaison Group, and Planning and Zoning
Liaison Group.
Ms. Griffin represents
District 3, which is a portion of Ward 4 that includes areas in Westlake
mostly east of Miller Ave. and Davis Rd.; also a portion of Ward 3 that
includes areas in Northwest Lake Charles mostly north of Clarence St. and west
of Sixth Ave.
