The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Office of Community Services has been awarded $80,000.00 in funding for its second round of Temporary Assistance For Needy Families Program (TANF) to assist income eligible residents who meet TANF eligibility guidelines.

 

Appointments for assistance will be given on a first call, first serve basis, and will begin Friday, November 1, 2002 at the Police Jury's Office of Community Services.

 

This program is available only to those individuals who are eligible for TANF Assistance and who have not received TANF Assistance within the past twelve (12) months.

 

TANF LIHEAP eligible residents are defined as those individuals who are either working or enrolled in school and who are seeking to achieve self-sufficiency.  TANF eligible residents are those who are gainfully employed and earning the income amounts below and who have children in their households under the age of eighteen.

 

All potential applicants must have, at the time of their intake, one of each of the following documents in their possession and ready for review or their appointments will be canceled.

 

                    Identification: One of the following - driver’s license, state ID, voter’s registration card, work or school ID, wage stubs must be available for review at the time of the appointment

 

                    Proof of Income (current or previous month at time of appointment) or verification that the head of household is currently enrolled in School.  Examples of acceptable forms of eligibility are:   check stub, statement from employer on Company Letterhead, transcript or certification on School or Agency Letterhead, billing statement from school.

 

                    Electric and/or Gas bills (at least one bill for gas or electricity) if the bill or bills are in your spouse’s name, a copy of your MARRIAGE License will be required.

 

                    Social security numbers and ages on ALL household members.

 

                    Verification of ALL children residing in the household ages 18 and under.  Examples of acceptable documentation are:  birth certificate, baptismal records, church records, and school records, court documents, income tax return.

All potentially eligible households facing excessive fuel bills who meet the income standards for eligibility will be given an appointment at the site closest to their residence.
