The
Calcasieu Parish Library will host a six-week series
of World Ward II readings and discussions. The
free program, called "I'll be seeing you..." will
run Thursday, August 15th to Wednesday, September
18th at Central Library (301 West Claude Street).
The six sessions are
titles "The Gathering Storm," "Major Turning
Points," "Rolling Back the Tide," "War in the Air,"
"D-Day," and "The Master Race."
The program which is
funded by the State of Louisiana and sponsored by
the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and the
Louisiana Library Association, is meant to be a
national and personal experience for Americans and
their adversaries.
"While World War II from
the American Perspective is always going to be
viewed as a just and victorious war, we have an
obligation to re-examine assumptions and values and
human behavior. War is not only an organized
activity of states, but also a setting for human
heroism and horror, good and bad luck. The
program's readings will provide for many
opportunities to explore these issues and appreciate
the experiences of war," said James Segreto,
director of LEH's library reading programs.
Space is limited, and
registration is suggested. Please call
475-8792 to register.
