New Pavilion at White Oak Park

March 8,  2002

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury completed construction last summer of a new air-conditioned pavilion at White Oak Park, 5584 River Road, northeast of Lake Charles (Take Exit 36 (Cameron/Creole) off of I-10, go north until River Road, then turn right).

The project’s architect is David Brossett, AIA, of Lake Charles, who states that the pavilion was designed in an Acadian style, and includes features that blend in with the character of the park.  These include a spacious porch, rustic window shutters and door handles, Acadian style roof, and others features.

Police Juror Calvin Collins states, “This pavilion sets a higher standard for designing future park pavilions, and should be popular with local citizens and visitors.  We encourage the public to visit White Oak Park, which is a beautiful setting for family get-togethers and other events.”

The pavilion is approximately 2,700 square feet in size, and can handle events for up to 125 people.  The pavilion is available for rent at a cost of $300 per day (plus $100 refundable clean-up fee). Since its opening, it has been used for receptions, parties, company trainings, and other events.

White Oak Park also has camper sites, picnic tables, and a boat launch.  For information on the pavilion or other park amenities, please contact the Police Jury at 437-3310.
