The Calcasieu Parish
Police Jury formally completed the sale of the
Mullers Building on August 5, 2004, to Mullers
Building Associates, LP, of Atlanta, Georgia.
Mullers Building Associates is represented by its
general partner, Roger Landry, who is a former
resident of Lake Charles.
Mullers
Building Associates’ project includes a restoration
of the building’s exterior and interior features.
The building will be developed into a mixed-use
facility that will feature approximately 40 lofts as
well as retail and office space.
“The Police Jury is
pleased to complete the sale of the Mullers
Building, which will have a significant impact in
the continued revitalization of downtown Lake
Charles,” said Police Jury President Brent Clement.
General partner Roger
Landry commented, “We are elated to complete the
purchase of the Mullers building as the first step
in the redevelopment of the property, which will
enhance the existing growth of downtown businesses.
My partners, Craig Taylor, and local businessman Tom
Shearman and I would like to express our gratitude
to Jim McGough and Steve Lacey of Whitney Bank as
well as the offices of the Calcasieu Parish Police
Jury and Mayor Roach’s office, specifically Bryan
Beam, Assistant Parish Administrator, and Lori
Marinovich, Downtown Development Director. We are
now preparing the specifics of the project, which we
hope to share with the community in the weeks to
come.”
Downtown Development
Director Lori Marinovich states, “The City of Lake
Charles and the Downtown Development Authority fully
support the Police Jury in this project to
rehabilitate a National Register landmark. Adaptive
reuse of historic buildings has been a key element
of the Authority’s strategic plan.”
The Mullers Building was
originally constructed in 1913, and closed as a
department store in 1986. |
