Maintenance
crews at Mosquito Control have been preparing
equipment for yet another busy season.
Although spraying for adults has not begun, field
crews have stayed busy in January and February
treating breeding areas flooded by recent rains.
"The lack of extreme
cold this winter, combined with late winter rains,
could result in an active mosquito outbreak this
spring," says Lucas Terracina, director of Calcasieu
Parish Mosquito Control. "Residents can expect
to see spray trucks back on the road once mosquito
activity warrants treatment."
It is important to once
again get in the habit of policing your premise and
remove anything that can hold water. This
includes old tires, cans, buckets, toys, and the
like. For containers where water is desired,
such as birdbaths, pet dishes, and flower pots,
empty every four days. "There are so many
places around the home and business that can produce
mosquitoes that it takes a community effort from
everyone," says Terracina.
