Calcasieu Parish is plagued with hundreds of homes
that repeatedly flood. Therefore, the Calcasieu
Parish Police Jury has searched for ways to help
residents from becoming a repeat flood victim. The
Calcasieu Parish Police Jury received a grant from
the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to
help elevate (raise) a house.

What makes this project so unique is that the house
is on a CONCRETE SLAB with 2700 sq. ft of living
area. This house had flooded 9 times; and the
homeowner was more than ready to not repeat this
agonizing, costly, inconvenient occurrence again.
So
the homeowner agreed to participate in this very
first mitigation project by allowing his home
located at 1961 Burkholder Road in Carlyss to be
elevated 3 feet off the ground and share in 25% of
the project cost.
You may view more of this project on the Cable
Government Access Channel at 7:45 a.m., 2:45 p.m., and
7:45 p.m. (approximate):
Channel 63 - Lake Charles
Channel 14 - Sulphur
