Ms. Vi Martin, Director
of Programs at the Office of Juvenile Justice
Services and a member of the Governor’s Juvenile
Justice Advisory Board, has been appointed to the
Coalition for Juvenile Justice’s Disproportionate
Minority Contact (DMC) Committee. The Coalition for
Juvenile Justice (CJJ) serves as a premier national
resource on delinquency prevention and juvenile
justice issues. CJJ is based in Washington, DC and
is comprised of state advisory groups and more than
1,500 professionals, concerned citizens and
advocates for juvenile justice.
The DMC committee
furthers the efforts of states to comply with the
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act
which mandates states to address juvenile
delinquency prevention and system improvements
designed to reduce the disproportionate number of
juvenile minority members who come into contact with
the juvenile justice system. It further requires
multi-pronged intervention strategies to assure
equal treatment of all youth.
Ms. Martin also serves
as the state coordinator for Disproportionate
Minority Contact for Louisiana. She is a graduate of
McNeese State University and the University of
Alabama, and has been employed by the Office of
Juvenile Justice Services since 1981. |
