State commits funds to MAP program

November 3, 2004

The Police Jury and Sheriff’s Office recently received confirmation that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will continue funding its share of the Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) Program.

The MAP Program began in 2000 as a partnership between the Police Jury, Sheriff’s Office, and DOTD, and consists of two vehicles that patrol along I-10 between Highway 27 (West) and Highway 397 (East) as well as the entire I-210 Loop.

MAP vehicles are equipped to provide a variety of services, which include fixing flats, providing gas and water, and moving vehicles.  They also assist other local law enforcement personnel on accident scenes, and provide backup for various incidents.

For MAP assistance, motorists should call 911 and give their name and location.  For more information on this program, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 491-3600.
