Mr. Joseph Harris, Jr. has been named
Director of Detention Services at the Office of
Juvenile Justice Services. He will oversee the
programming and operations of the 38 bed secure
detention facility, as well as the detention school,
school food service, and Zero Tolerance programs.
Mr. Harris previously served for over 5 years as
Assistant Director of the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile
Detention Center, a 72 bed secure detention
facility. He also worked in the Lafayette Juvenile
Detention Center and was a Probation Officer for the
City Court of Houma for over 3 years.
Joe is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at
Lafayette, where he majored in criminal justice and
played offensive tackle for the Ragin Cajuns. Since
1999, he has served on the Board of Directors of the
Louisiana Juvenile Detention Association, currently
serving as secretary. He served as Vice-President
of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
Program in Terrebonne Parish, and taught life skills
to at-risk youth in the community.
Mr. Harris is married to Vanessa, a social worker,
and has two daughters, Janessa, 11, and Jaeda Amoni,
4 months. He is an avid sports fan and will be a
member of the Office of Juvenile Justice Services
softball team. He is looking forward to becoming
involved in the Calcasieu Parish community.
