The Coastal Conservation Association and the Police Jury held a "We're Fishing for a Name" contest open to all 5th grade elementary school classes in the parish to find a name for the new public boat launch and recreation facility being constructed at the Industrial Canal.  Christian Kitzmiller from St. John Elementary School was the winner with the name "Calcasieu Point Landing."  He and other winners were awarded with a fishing rod and reel, and a fishing trip on the lake.  The Police Jury formally approved the name for the boat launch and park at its' regular meeting on May 1, 2003.

Funding for the project is from a NOAA Grant and Calcasieu Parish funds.
