The Association of
Certified Cruelty Investigators (ACCI),
The A.S.P.C.A.
National Shelter Outreach Program, and
The Humane Society of
the United States (HSUS)
are sponsoring a seminar
on exploring the connection between cruelty to
animals and violence towards people. The
seminar will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2003 at
McNeese State University in the Para Ballroom.
The registration begins
at 8:00 a.m. and conference objectives include:

Recognition and
discussion of the connections between animal
cruelty and violence towards people

Identification of
indictors of abuse to animals that may signal
violence against humans
-
Creation of
opportunities for interaction between
professionals involved in animal protection and
their counterparts in human services dealing with
abused children, women and others
-
To provide information
from and for law enforcement officials and the
court system on the seriousness of animal cruelty
cases in the larger context of family and social
violence
-
Establish a local
network of animal protection and human service
professionals to offer support, cross-training,
intervention strategies and community education
