The Organizational Meeting of the Police Jury of Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2000, in the Police Jury Room on the first floor of the Parish Government Building, Lake Charles, Louisiana, with the Honorable Algie Breaux, Vice-President, calling the meeting to order. The invocation was pronounced by Monsignor Irving A. DeBlanc.
The Honorable Rick Bryant, Calcasieu Parish District Attorney, conducted the swearing_in ceremony and administered the Oath of Office to the following: Don Manuel (District 1), Calvin Collins (District 2), Elizabeth C. Griffin (District 3), Luvertha August (District 4), Charles S. Mackey, D.D.S. (District 5), Cornelius Moon (District 6), Chris Landry (District 7), Chuck Kleckley (District 8), Algie Breaux (District 10), Sandy Treme (District 11), Brent Clement (District 12), Francis Andrepont (District 13), Hal McMillin (District 14), and Mike Danahay (District 15).
Vice-President Breaux advised that Mr. Enos Derbonne (District 9) was unable to attend the organizational meeting on this date but had been sworn in.
Vice-President Breaux then opened the floor for nominations for the office of President of the Police Jury for the ensuing year.
Mrs. Treme nominated Dr. Mackey for the office of President, and Mr. Andrepont seconded said nomination. There being no further nominations, Dr. Mackey was elected by acclamation.
Newly_elected President Mackey assumed the chair and opened the floor for nominations for Vice_President of the Police Jury for the year 2000. Mr. Andrepont nominated Mrs. Griffin, and Mr. Breaux seconded said nomination. There being no further nominations, Mrs. Griffin was elected by acclamation.
It was moved by Mr. Breaux, seconded by Mrs. Griffin and carried unanimously that Mr. McMurry be redesignated as ex_officio Parish Treasurer in accordance with LSACR.S. 33:1651 and that he be authorized to certify official documents of the Parish as ex-officio Parish Secretary.
President Mackey recognized the following persons as being present in the audience: Mr. Randy Roach, former legislator and candidate for Mayor of the City of Lake Charles; Ms. Ann Knapp, candidate for Mayor of the City of Lake Charles; Mayor Rodney Geyen, City of Lake Charles; Mrs. Harriet Green, former Police Juror; Mr. George Heard, former Police Juror; Ms. Patricia Hemphill, Sulphur City Council; Mr. Gerald Washington and Mr. John Cradure, Westlake City Council.
The benediction was given by Monsignor Irving A. DeBlanc.
There being no further business, President Mackey declared the meeting to be adjourned.
