This March the U.S. Census bureau will begin its count of all residents living in the United States. With so many people to count, it's one of the largest operations the federal government undertakes, requiring about 1.4 million temporary employees! However, as a resident doing your part is easy. You will be asked to take about 10 minutes to fill out a form with 10 questions on it and send it back to the federal government. That's it!
Those 10 questions in 10 minutes will have a huge impact on your future. Census numbers affect how much money your community will receive out of the more than $400 billion allocated to local, state and tribal governments over the next 10 years. It also has a direct impact on the power of your vote in Congress.
Will the 2010 Census be the same as 2000?
No, there are some important changes. The 2010 Census will be short form only, just 10 easy questions. Meanwhile the long form is now part of the annual American Community Survey. Also, handheld computers with Global Positioning Systems will be used to check our address list in 2009.
The Local Office is located at 2133 Oak Park Blvd. and can be reached at: 337-656-4568
