Juvenile Justice

ADMINISTRATION

In 1999, the Office of Juvenile Justice Services was reorganized to create four departments with designated department directors, working under the Director of the Office of Juvenile Justice Services and functioning as the Management Team. While each department has specific responsibilities and roles, the departments are interdependent and work closely together to achieve a continuum of services for juveniles and families. The established structure, which includes FINS, Detention, Intake/Probation, Drug Court and TASC under the umbrella of the Office of Juvenile Justice Services, assures continuity of services and consistency of philosophy in carrying out the balanced approach to juvenile justice.

The Director for the Office of Juvenile Justice Services is responsible for supervising the entire facility and all of its employees. The Director is kept informed of all matters pertaining to the facility and its employees and reports directly to the Parish Administrator. The Director is the contact person for the Parish Administrator and Police Jurors for any matter that might arise regarding the Office of Juvenile Justice Services.  The Director is assisted by the Director of Clerical Services.

The Director of Clerical Services supervises the Clerical Department, which is the support system for all of the other departments within the Office of Juvenile Justice Services. This department prepares all documents pertaining to juvenile matters handled by the Office of Juvenile Justice Services. The personnel within this department maintain the case records of the juvenile clients it serves. This department consists of nine (9) full-time secretaries, one (1) receptionist and one (1) part-time office runner.

Eight secretaries provide support for a minimum of two (2) Probation Officers each, whose caseloads average between 30 – 50 cases at one time. One secretary is assigned to assist the Counselors. The receptionist is responsible for routing all incoming phone calls to the proper personnel/department and directing clientele to the respective  Probation Officer and/or department. The office runner delivers documents and all other relative paperwork throughout the legal system on a daily basis, making sure that the documents/paperwork is properly distributed to the correct agencies and network personnel.

Ms. Mary Harpster is the Director of Clerical Services.  For more information about the Clerical Department contact, please contact her at  mharpster@cppj.net.
