The Office of Juvenile Justice Services provides rehabilitative services and secure confinement
for Calcasieu Parish juvenile offenders under 17 years of age. In
addition, programs and services for juveniles and families provide early
intervention with youth at risk of entering the criminal justice system
and coordination of services designed to increase family functioning.
Probation officers provide services for the Fourteenth Judicial District
Court, Family and Juvenile Court, including the intake/ screening of all
referrals and supervision of juvenile offenders. Each year over
2000 young people ages 5-17 receive and their families receive services through one of the
following programs:

Volunteers/Interns
The Office of Juvenile Justice
Services works closely with other community agencies and programs including
Family and Juvenile Court, the District Attorney's Office, the Calcasieu
Parish School System, Office For Addictive Disorders, Office of Mental Health,
and other government and non-profit organizations to provide services for
juveniles and families.
The Office of Juvenile Justice
Services is funded through the Juvenile Detention, Probation and Service Tax,
which has been consistently approved by Calcasieu Parish voters since 1967.
In addition, federal, state, and local grants and contracts provide funding
for educational and counseling services and special programs.
The mission of the Office of
Juvenile Justice Service is to consistently provide quality rehabilitative
service for juvenile offenders and their families in a manner that is
responsible to their needs, while always being mindful of public safety.
