SERVICES
The Information Systems (GIS) department function includes the management and creation of
various graphic map layers of Calcasieu Parish. This includes such layers as
land parcels, flood zones, land-use zones, political subdivisions, GPS control
points and various road systems in the Parish. With each of these graphic
layers, an attribute database record is maintained on the individual graphic
feature. The department is also continually making various maps for other
divisions of the Parish government.
The duties of the department have increased with the installation of the
Parish's new complex-wide computer network. This network connects all the
computers in the complex (Engineering Building and Administration Building), and
has greatly enhanced the inter-functionality of the various divisions of the
Parish. The imaging system currently being used by Administration and Public
Works will come under this department and will be expanded to all the other
divisions and departments. With these new duties, the GIS department will become
the information manager of basically all data of the Parish.
