At its regular meeting
on Thursday, January 22nd, the Police Jury filled
the vacancy existing in District 9, which was
created when election winner Kevin Guidry was not
sworn in on January 12th.
Mr.
Alvin Stevens, a supervisor at Grace Davison,
was appointed to fill this seat until a permanent
replacement is elected in September. Stevens
confirmed that he will not be seeking election in
September for this seat, but feels that he can be of
help during this transition.

He says, "It's a very
good district. The people of this district are
hard-working, honest people. I know a lot of
them, and I'll be visiting with them to find out if
they have any interests or something I need to
address."
Stevens was nominated by
former Police Jury President, Chuck Kleckley, who
says, "Stevens has an impeccable record. He's
done an excellent job and I've heard nothing but
positive things about him."
The election of a
permanent replacement for this seat will be
September 18, 2004. A run-off election will be
held on November 2nd if needed. For more
