Ready for Auto Renewals?

Post Date:12/18/2017 9:59 AM

auto renewalYour library offers auto renewals!

  1. What is automatic renewal or auto-renew?
    • This is an automatic process selects items due that day and tries to renew the items (if eligible to be renewed). Once done, the system will automatically notify patrons with a valid email address.
    • Not sure if your email address is correct?
  2. When will the auto-renewal take place?
    • Every morning (7 days a week) a report runs prior to opening, and will auto-renew any item currently due that day, and if the item is eligible to be renewed.

  3. What items can or can’t be auto-renewed, and how long will they be renewed?
    • All items that currently allow renewals are eligible for auto-renewal – see exceptions below.
    • Some items have 2 renewals and some items only allow 1 renewal.
    • Items will continue to auto-renew, each time the new due date is reached, until the renewal limit has been reached
    • An eligible item will auto-renew for whatever the current checkout period is --- Example: books will renew for 2 weeks, DVDs and Blu-Rays will renew for 1 week.

      Exceptions:

      • Dolls, Hotspots, iPads, Circulating Laptops are not eligible for auto renewal.
      • Items with holds
      • Items that were previously due (Overdue).
      • However, you may contact a branch for assistance.
    • Items that are due tomorrow or the day after that day’s report (the report for tomorrow would renew it if it is eligible).
    • Library cards that will expire within 2 weeks. If this is the case, your item will only be renewed up to your card’s expiration date. Example: your card expires on 10/25/17 then the item would only renew to 10/25/17.
    • You may determine your card's expiration date by accessing your account in the library's online account, or contact one of our branch locations.

  4. Am I eligible to have items auto-renewed?
    • All patrons in good standing will be able to have items auto-renewed. See exceptions below

      Exceptions:

      • Blocked or barred patrons will not have items auto-renewed.
      • Expired patrons won’t have their items auto-renewed.

  5. Will only those patrons with valid email addresses have their items auto-renewed?
    • No, any item that has renewals available and has no holds will be auto-renewed provided the patron isn’t blocked, barred, or expired; however, only patrons with valid email addresses that are listed within the library's database will get a notification.
    • Access your account via the online catalog to verify the on-file email address. If not correct, or if an email address is not listed, please contact a library branch for assistance.

  6. Who will get notified about auto-renewal?
    • Only patrons with valid email addresses will receive an email notification.
    • Patrons with no email or incorrect email address will not get any notification; however, if the books are eligible then they will still be auto-renewed.

  7. Will it notify if an item wasn’t able to be auto-renewed?
    • No, the only notification it sends are for items that were successfully renewed, and it only sends to valid email addresses.
      • Example, a patron may have 3 books that are due today, but only 2 could be renewed because the 3rd book has a hold on it --- the patron would only get the email notification for the 2 books it did renew

  8. Will the email notification have the new due date and how many renewals are still available?
    • Yes, it will have the new due date for the items it was able to auto-renew.
    • No, it will not show how many renewals are remaining; however, patrons may retrieve this information by logging into your account or contacting one of our branches.

  9. Do I need to sign up for this?
    • No, it is automatic --- any eligible item that can be renewed, has renewals left, and has no holds will automatically be renewed on the day it is due provided the patron isn’t blocked, barred, or expired.

  10. Is there anything I could do to make this be more efficient?
  • Access your account via the online catalog to verify the on-file email address. If not correct, or if an email address is not listed, please contact a library branch for assistance.
