New Smoking Ordinance Proposal to Make Parish Owned Spaces Smoke Free
Proposal includes smokeless tobacco and vaping
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury invites residents to send in their feedback on a new smoking ordinance to take effect in 2017 upon approval. The proposed ordinance would prohibit smoking, smokeless tobacco and vaping at Police Jury owned facilities, Parish parks and the Health Unit Complex. Residents will still be able to vape, smoke and use smokeless tobacco in Parish designated smoking areas plus designated RV camper and tent camp sites at Parish parks.
The proposal presents no change for private homes, bars, gaming establishments, restaurants and other businesses. It continues to adopt the Louisiana Smoke Free Air Act as per R.S. 40:1291.1.
Residents are encouraged to send in their feedback via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 337-721-3500. Final consideration is expected at the November 17th Police Jury meeting. If approved, the ordinance will go into effect January 1, 2017.
